This hotel (yes, hotel, not hostel/guest house) was amazing. The service was great--much better than anywhere else I've stayed in Japan (which is saying a lot). The room was very clean and comfortable, with a nice view. The surrounding area was incredibly beautiful, and very interesting. I'd highly recommend doing the hike to see the seven waterfalls. Take the bus to the one at the top of the hill and then hike down. If you don't have the time to do that (about two hours or so), just check out the two downhill from the hotel--they're the best. Lots of interesting things within the hotel property, especially the scary bridge. The spas at Tsuribashi-so were nice, especially the rooftop spa--open-air, surrounded by lush green mountains, and the water was just the right temperature. Good variety of spas. We didn't have enough time to go to all of them. We couldn't believe how cheap the room was. Only one thing: the dinner was a little small for the price. If you're on a budget, go to the convenience store near the station and bring some snacks with you, since there aren't many places open after 5:00 in the area. The included breakfast was really good. The staff were very helpful, and shuttled us all over the place for no extra charge. One warning: the telephone number on the website doesn't work, at least if you're calling from a cell phone. Ask the woman at the tourist information center near the station for an updated number. Overall, highly recommend!
