Such beautiful and charming staff.

My mate and I had an incredible stay. An authentic Japanese experience, sleeping on tatami mats, shared bathing, traditional food. Such beautiful and charming staff. Highly recommended. The hostel while a little out of the way, is only a short stroll to some very cool bars and places to eat.

Can't rate this ryokan highly enough. When we arrived at 11.30pm on the last train someone was waiting to pick us up and when we were leaving to go to the monkey park they drove us without a second thought. The family are very friendly and the ryokan lovely and traditional.

I love the place.

This is the second time I have stayed at Homeikan. I love the place. I hope to stay there every time I come to Japan. This is about as close as I will ever come to living in a traditional Japanese house in a regular Tokyo neighborhood. The staff is exceptionally kind and attentive. If a person is drawn to wood, tatami mats, sliding screens and doesn't want to feel like he or she is staying in a museum, then this really is a great choice.

Loved staying here, wish it could have been for more than one night.

We wanted to check out the snow monkeys, relax in the onsen and enjoy a great meal. We did all three here. It's a short walk to the snow monkeys and if you don't have snow boots, the inn had some for you to borrow. The hot baths were awesome and there's some outside, including one with both genders. The room was heated, and quite large and we had our own bathroom attached. The room is heated and the kaiseki meal was fantastic (not served in our room but in a main building but we had our own private room)- grilled fish, sashimi, soup, shabu-shabu.... and breakfast was equally wonderful (with the best apple juice ever). I slept in and missed the cut off time for the baths as they do close, for cleaning but they were nice enough to let me use it anyways. The owner and staff were very friendly and as we were checking out, it started to snow, so they gave us a lift to the near-by bus station. Loved staying here, wish it could have been for more than one night.

The room and overall ambience was nice and very traditional. Only real complaints were the door to the bathroom was a bit tricky to open and my heater did make odd beeping noises after being on for a while (probably due to overheating) so I couldn't leave it on all night. But these were small concerns and I had a great time. The staff were also very friendly and did their best to use English.
