Such beautiful and charming staff.

My mate and I had an incredible stay. An authentic Japanese experience, sleeping on tatami mats, shared bathing, traditional food. Such beautiful and charming staff. Highly recommended. The hostel while a little out of the way, is only a short stroll to some very cool bars and places to eat.

I love the place.

This is the second time I have stayed at Homeikan. I love the place. I hope to stay there every time I come to Japan. This is about as close as I will ever come to living in a traditional Japanese house in a regular Tokyo neighborhood. The staff is exceptionally kind and attentive. If a person is drawn to wood, tatami mats, sliding screens and doesn't want to feel like he or she is staying in a museum, then this really is a great choice.

The room and overall ambience was nice and very traditional.

The room and overall ambience was nice and very traditional. Only real complaints were the door to the bathroom was a bit tricky to open and my heater did make odd beeping noises after being on for a while (probably due to overheating) so I couldn't leave it on all night. But these were small concerns and I had a great time. The staff were also very friendly and did their best to use English.

I would highly recommend coming here.

1.jpgThis was a great place, with helpful people. Just keep in mind taht it is an older building with lots of wood and tatami mats, and we needed allergy pills, being used to completely dead & sterile environments. I would highly recommend coming here.

Great place for an authentic Ryokan stay without leaving Tokyo.

Great place for an authentic Ryokan stay without leaving Tokyo. It was a little bit tricky to find initially and unfortunately the poor weather made it a bit of a pain to get to and fro. The staff were excellent and had good English. Made use of the private bath area which was very relaxing after a busy day of sightseeing. Highly recommended.

It is a beautiful old traditional Japanese inn, all wooden, very unusual.

homeikan_1117.jpgHomeikan is a fantastic place to stay in Tokyo. It is a beautiful old traditional Japanese inn, all wooden, very unusual. The staff are excellent. and the rooms very comfortable, all with tatami mats, and a lot of character. The only drawbacks are that there are shared bathrooms, in the Japanese style, and the walls are thin, so if anyone near you is being noisy at night, you do hear it.

A traditional ryokan in the middle of Tokyo.

I stay here twice, and has a good location to go by train and subway, near Tokyo dome the house of giants. A traditional ryokan in the middle of Tokyo. What can you demand more?

Thanks for the wonderful service.

2.jpgThe first thing you'll notice when you arrive is how friendly and gracious everyone is. The staff were so kind, grabbing our bags and giving us fans as soon as we entered, and taking our bags to our room. We returned at night and saw our beds already rolled out. Such great service! The building is old and traditional, and while we found a bug in the room (staff then gave us spray to get rid of it), it was a great experience. If there were no bugs, perfect! Thanks for the wonderful service.

The facilities were spotless and the staff were very helpful and kind.

Homeikan was my first port of call in Japan, and I was very impressed. Although it was quite difficult to find (the building doesn't have a sign), the facilities were spotless and the staff were very helpful and kind. I'm staying elsewhere in Tokyo later in my trip, but I'd definitely consider going to Homeikan if I was to return.

Traditional old Japanese-style ryokan with typical atmosphere.

homeikan_room.jpgTraditional old Japanese-style ryokan with typical atmosphere. Placed in a quiet area of Tokyo to enjoy a quiet stay. A few minutes walk to the nearest subway stations (Hongo-sanchome, E08/M21; Todaimae, N12). Rooms are well equipped with futons, fridge, TV, phone, cookies and always a hot bottle of water for preparing your green tea. We most liked the hot bath tub for relaxing after a long day in the city (available 24h/day). Staff was very friendly, helpful and all English-speaking.

Location is convenient and the ambiance is awesome.

Very nice place to stay for a few days. Location is convenient and the ambiance is awesome. The staff are nice and friendly and communicate in english pretty well. For outsiders, one note of concern that they have a common bathroom. A small bathroom with every room would have been nice. a plus is free internet (also wifi) . The garden was also particularly beautiful. Grocery stores are nearby and subway is 5-10 min walk. I would strongly recommend Homeikan to all for a short visit to Tokyo.

We spent a very pleasant time there, and can nothing else as to recommend this place to everybody who seeks for a reasonable, lovely ryokan.

The staff is very friendly and always ready to help. Although not all of them can speak english, there are at least 2 or 3 people who can, so communication is no problem. There are only few minutes walk to the next subway-station. And although the ryokan is in a nice, quiet living area, the tokyo dome is nearby. We spent a very pleasant time there, and can nothing else as to recommend this place to everybody who seeks for a reasonable, lovely ryokan.

Wonderfull place in Bunkyo-ku, a very quiet place in Tokyo.

A weekend away starting from Beijing, with a little daughter of three years old. Wonderfull place in Bunkyo-ku, a very quiet place in Tokyo. Real japanese style and kindness. Daimachi is the most peaceful and traditional of the three.

Excellent value for a more quiet and traditional stay in Japan.

One of the highlights of our trip was the helpful and charming reception of the staff at the Daimachi branch. The ryokan is located very near Kasuga subway and is within a good stroll of Tokyo Dome and JR station Sudobashi. The bathing area was very well kept, there's a hairdryer in the changing room which is coin-free! Our room was a little dusty, so if you're an asthma sufferer take heed. Excellent value for a more quiet and traditional stay in Japan. Will definitely be back!

This is a great hostel, quite small but perfectly formed!

This is a great hostel, quite small but perfectly formed! Very clean and tidy, the staff are brilliant, very very helpful suggesting ideas for sightseeing, shopping and eating out, and also very friendly. It’s close to the tube and near the main shopping/restaurant area, we walked most places. Also met lots of nice people there, although I must say you have to be quite quiet after 10pm as you can hear throughout the house. I would stay here agian!

It was a great traditional Japanese inn experience.

We loved our stay at Homeikan. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There was always someone there who could speak some English. Very clean. It was a great traditional Japanese inn experience. The only problem we had was a little difficulty in finding it.

Homeikan was great and I would highly reccommend it to everyone!

Homeikan was great and I would highly reccommend it to everyone! Definately take a taxi from Ueno station or the Metro, because it is impossible to find the first time! There is no sign with English lettering either. We stayed in Honkan, where two of the staff spoke perfect English while others spoke some English. The baths were fine, and there are Western style toilets. We really enjoyed the experience, thank you so much Homeikan staff!!!

Fabulous staff, highly recommend this place.

Wonderful atmosphere, I hadn't felt this relaxed in over 3 months of travelling. Hearing the water from the fountain in the japanese garden outside as you ate your traditional japanese breakfast in the morning. Fabulous staff, highly recommend this place.

We had an amazing stay here.

We had an amazing stay here. It's not a place full of young people looking to party, but the experience is wonderful and the staff was so friendly and helpful. And the traditional style can be a quiet, relaxing place to come home to after crazy nights in Tokyo. I recommend this to anyone.

The room was fantastic and very authentic, and the bath facilities was excellent - traditional Japanese style with a hot bath as well.

homeikan_furo.jpgHomeikan is a wonderful place to stay at barring its location, which isn't too bad at all actually. Was slightly tricky finding it, but there's actually big posters plastered onto the lamp-posts just that they're in Kanji for Homeikan, so take note for that, or just ask the locals, the ryokan is quite famous around : ) The room was fantastic and very authentic, and the bath facilities was excellent - traditional Japanese style with a hot bath as well. breakfast service is also excellent, and wearing yukata around the courtyard just made me feel japanese : ) definitely worth a stay!

The staff has been very helpful. Whatever we requested, they would try to help.

We enjoyed our stay at Homeikan. The location was very convenient and easy to find (we took the Keisei Skyliner Limieted Express from Narita (1000Y per person) to the Ueno station, then a taxi to Homeikan (900Y for 5 of us)). We subsequently stayed at a fancier Western type hotel in Shinjuku (cost 3 times more than Homeikan), and find that the peace and quiet in Homeikan was very much appreciated. Homeikan is closed to 2 different subway lines just 5-10 min away. From there you can pretty much get to anywhere you want to. Compare that to the hectic Shinjuku station, the Homeikan location is much easier to negotiate. The staff has been very helpful. Whatever we requested, they would try to help. We were able to leave our lugguages at the Homeikan while we went on a 3 day trip away from Tokyo. The room was simple and clean. Adequate and very good value for the money. The place may not be for someone who looks for a typical western type hotel, and expects a western standard. But if you want to get a local flavor, it offers a great value.

You cannot go wrong with Homeikan.

homeikan.gif

You cannot go wrong with Homeikan. Just right across from Tokyo University. And further off is a park you can row boats at your leisure. Though most of the staff do not speak English (you can't expect them to), you can and the staff can get along just fine. If you are unsure how to use the room, bath, and restrooms just ask and they will happily show you.
