We stayed just one night at this ryokan and loved it. It’s great if you are looking for a traditional ryokan experience without the sky high price tag. We booked an 8-tatami mat room for two of us which was a good size…we were nervous about sleeping on the floor but found it extremely comfortable. We didn’t use the onsen but I took a bath in the room (the tubs are the short deep Japanese kind) and it was amazing after being sore from walking. Everything was clean, the staff spoke enough English and was super helpful with hailing cabs, and allowed us to store our luggage after checkout. We had the breakfast included, which was a delicious traditional style Japanese meal with rice, tofu, fish, egg and some other smaller dishes. There’s a pod coffeemaker in the lobby and tea in the room with an electric kettle. The yukatas were so cute and comfy! We’d definitely stay again or recommend for anyone looking for a more traditional experience in Kyoto.
Stayed at Ryokufuso, a traditional Japanese hotel near the World Heritage temple Nishi-honganji in Kyoto city.
