Found Rykofuso Ryokan on Tripadvisor when looking for an authentic experience in Kyoto. The positive reviews and the ryokan’s responses encouraged our decision to book 2 nights 3 weeks ago. What a wonderful experience it was, especially coming for western style hotels during our trip. Situated in a quiet street away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Kyoto, yet with easy access to taxis and buses, we found the ryokan a delightful place with welcoming and helpful staff. Just be aware that you cannot access your room till after 4pm but they happily take care of your luggage. When we arrived back after an afternoon of sightseeing we found our bags waiting in or room along with ice water, sweet delights and green tea facilities. Refreshed after soaking in the 6th floor onsen we were treated to a wonderful in-house Japanese meal. Would recommend the full meal deal – Japanese breakfast and dinner. The hotel staff are so accommodating. My husband doesn’t like (eat) mushrooms or seafood and they bent over backward to accommodate this with his meals. The young staff are happy to interact with guests. Sleeping on the futon mattress on the tatami mats was very comfortable. Our 2 nights were one of the highlghts of our trip and we wouldn’t hesitate recommending this ryokan to family and friends. Thank you Rykofuso for a great experience we won’t forget.
Stayed at Ryokufuso, a traditional Japanese hotel near the World Heritage temple Nishi-honganji in Kyoto city.
