A classic ryokan.

We spent one night here. It’s a classic ryokan with good service and a quality dinner. The room is a typical tatami mats space, a table and chairs in the day giving way to futons at night. It’s not the prettiest I’ve visited but nice all the same. Dinner and breakfast are Japanese. Don’t come hoping for western food. One downside is at least some rooms have no shower. The hotel has very public baths and a very nice onsen. Be warned these are naked bathing spots so if that bothers you the onsen experience is not for you. Gero is a very pretty little town and the train ride there is spectacular.
