This is a beautiful traditional Ryokan. We highly recommend it here. The staff are very accomodating and very friendly. Rooms are exceptionally clean and the Ryokan is set in beautiful grounds near the Hida Village and is very peaceful. Breakfast is specially hand cooked by the owners. The owners picked us up from the station and gave us a sightseeing tour of the old town.

Just wanted to let you know that our trip to Japan, and in particular to Yudanka and Hotel Tsubakino, went very well. The hotel was great, the staff were extremely friendly and the baths were awesome. We hiked to Jigokudani and saw the monkeys. The kids were thrilled. We also at dinner one night at the nearby Izakaya which was lots of fun. All in all it was a perfect interlude on a fantastic trip. Thanks for the help in arranging it and in getting the second night reduced. We appreciate it. We will definitely recommend your service to our friend who travel to Japan.

This experience will rank among the very, very best we did ever had the chance to live. This island is magic and your place is fabulous. Atmosphere here is truly elegant, neat and amazing. To us, everything did need a mention for its speciality, professionalism and lovely kindness. It was easy to find. Your staff is adorable and very dedicated. We will remember you dearly. We hope to return and surely we will advice all our friends.

I've stayed at both the Kusatsu Now Resort and the Naraya. The Kusatsu Now is a Western Style building and we stayed in a Japanese Western Combo Room with 2 single beds and a Japanese style area. The hot spring was OK and the meals were good. The Naraya is a different class as it is a traditional ryokan very close to Yubatake. Both the room and meals were fantastic and the private hot springs were great. We also got to stroll around the village center in our Yukata in the evening. My advice: If you can afford it, go for the Naraya.

As Gassho-en is a very original place and a little bit isolated, it would have been nice to have a meal plan available or some more information about where to have dinner on a Monday night(most restaurants nearby were then closed). The free shuttle bus is much appreciated!
