We enjoyed our stay at Homeikan. The location was very convenient and easy to find (we took the Keisei Skyliner Limieted Express from Narita (1000Y per person) to the Ueno station, then a taxi to Homeikan (900Y for 5 of us)). We subsequently stayed at a fancier Western type hotel in Shinjuku (cost 3 times more than Homeikan), and find that the peace and quiet in Homeikan was very much appreciated. Homeikan is closed to 2 different subway lines just 5-10 min away. From there you can pretty much get to anywhere you want to. Compare that to the hectic Shinjuku station, the Homeikan location is much easier to negotiate. The staff has been very helpful. Whatever we requested, they would try to help. We were able to leave our lugguages at the Homeikan while we went on a 3 day trip away from Tokyo. The room was simple and clean. Adequate and very good value for the money. The place may not be for someone who looks for a typical western type hotel, and expects a western standard. But if you want to get a local flavor, it offers a great value.
